Session cost calculator

What Would That Session Have Cost for Real?

Free chips hide the one number that matters: what the same spins cost with real money. Choose the wheel and the bet you played, how much per spin and how many spins. We work out every possible result, not just the average, so you see the bad nights as well as the good ones.

Wheel

Bet each spin

200 spins at $5 on red or black, European wheel: $1,000 bet in total.

Average cost $27.03 The 2.70% house edge on everything you bet

Chance you finish ahead 33% 5% end exactly level
AverageBreak even−$240+$190
Losing sessionsWinning sessionsAverage resultTaller bars are more likely results.

Red or black wins 18 spins in 37, so results stay closer to the average than with any other bet.

On an American wheel the same spins cost $52.63 on average. On a French wheel with La Partage, $13.51.

Exact odds for a standard wheel with the same bet placed every spin. It doesn't cover the multiplier games, whose paytables are different. Count the spins you'd play in a normal night: software games go as fast as you click, so it's often more than you think.

Game guides

The 7 Free Roulette Games, Explained

What each demo is, what makes it different, and what's worth practicing while the chips are free.

BetsoftSingle zero

European Roulette

Wheel
37 pockets, one zero
House edge
2.70%
Top payout
35 to 1

What's different. The standard single-zero game, and the one we'd learn on. Every bet on the layout carries the same 2.70% house edge, so no bet is a trap.

Practice this. Place each bet type once: a split, a street, a corner, a six line, a dozen and red. Watch how each one settles, so nothing surprises you at a real table.

BetsoftDouble zero

American Roulette

Wheel
38 pockets, 0 and 00
House edge
5.26%
Top payout
35 to 1

What's different. The extra 00 pocket nearly doubles the house edge, but every payout stays the same. That's the whole difference, and it's a big one.

Practice this. Find 0 and 00 on the layout. If the table offers the five-number bet on 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3, note that it pays 6 to 1 with a 7.89% edge, the worst bet in roulette.

BetsoftCall bets

Zoom Roulette

Wheel
37 pockets, one zero
House edge
2.70% on standard bets
Top payout
35 to 1

What's different. A single-zero game with a close-up camera on the wheel and preset call bets, including Orphelins and Zero. Some game guides say it returns half of an even-money bet when zero lands. Open the rules (the i button) and check before you count on it.

Practice this. Call bets cover a slice of the wheel, not a block of the layout. Place Orphelins (5 chips) and Zero (4 chips) and watch which numbers each one covers.

BGamingLa Partage

French Roulette

Wheel
37 pockets, one zero
House edge
1.35% on even money
Top payout
35 to 1

What's different. The best odds on this page. When zero lands, La Partage gives back half of any even-money bet, which halves the house edge on red, black, odd, even, high and low. Other bets stay at 2.70%.

Practice this. Bet the same chip on red for 30 or 40 spins and watch what happens when zero comes up. Then find the French names on the layout: Rouge, Noir, Pair, Impair, Manque and Passe.

BGamingMultipliers

Royal Roulette 500X

Wheel
One zero
House edge
2.7% (97.3% RTP)
Top payout
500x on a number

What's different. Before each spin, up to three numbers get a multiplier between 50x and 500x. It only pays on straight-up bets on those numbers. You can bet on a standard grid or a racetrack with the call bets.

Practice this. Open the paytable and check what a plain number pays when no multiplier lands. Multiplier games usually pay less than 35 to 1 there, to fund the big wins.

AmusnetVirtual

Virtual Maxima Roulette

Wheel
European style
House edge

Top payout
Multipliers

What's different. A computer-run version of Amusnet's Maxima Roulette live game, so there's no dealer and no waiting. Random multipliers sit on top of a normal wheel. Amusnet's newest Maxima games advertise a ladder that tops out at 4444x.

Practice this. Use it to get a feel for multiplier games, not to test a system. Count how many spins go by before one of your numbers gets a multiplier and actually lands.

AmusnetVirtual

Eye of Ra Roulette

Wheel
Virtual table
House edge
Not published
Top payout
Up to 2000x

What's different. An Egyptian-themed virtual game. Amusnet says its multipliers can lift inside bets to as much as 2000x, and outside bets can get boosted payouts too. You start each spin yourself, with a fast-spin option.

Practice this. Compare the payouts on the info screen with a standard table: 35 to 1 on a number, 1 to 1 on red. Whatever the game takes off those is the price of the multipliers.

House edges for the standard wheels are worked out from the payouts. Royal Roulette 500X's RTP is as listed by SlotCatalog, and the multiplier details come from BGaming and Amusnet's own announcements. Check the paytable inside each game: it's the one that counts.

Where to Play Each Free Roulette Game for Real Money

We checked each demo against the software lobbies in our 10 casino reviews. Where the same game isn't there, we show the closest thing and say so. The real-money button in the player follows this table and opens the highest-ranked match.

Want a real wheel?

Live roulette has no free demo. MyBookie lists live tables from $0.10 a spin, the lowest we found, and live multiplier tables such as x500 Roulette. The Online Casino has Triple Way Roulette. Our live roulette guide covers the rest.

Skip the bonus, usually

Most deposit bonuses on our list count roulette at 0% or 5% toward the rollover, and the rest are slot spins or don't say, so they rarely help a roulette player. We go through the bonus catches for roulette players and compare all 10 roulette sites side by side.

Odds

European vs American vs French Roulette: Which Has the Best Odds?

French roulette has the best odds of the three: 1.35% on even-money bets, thanks to La Partage. European is next at 2.70% on every bet. American is the worst at 5.26%, because the extra 00 pocket doesn't come with bigger payouts.

Skip the five-number bet. On an American table, the bet on 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3 pays 6 to 1 when the true odds are 33 to 5. That's a 7.89% house edge, the worst bet on the layout. For the payout on every other bet, see our roulette bets and payouts guide or the roulette odds calculator.

Free Roulette vs Real Money: What Changes?

The game itself doesn't change. Everything around it does.

Stays the same

  • The wheel, the layout and the payouts. A single number pays 35 to 1 either way.
  • The house edge. It's built into what each bet pays, so a free session has the same expected cost as a real one. You just don't pay it.
  • The bets. Splits, corners, dozens and call bets all cover the same numbers and settle the same way.
  • The randomness. Streaks happen in both, and neither remembers the last spin. No betting system changes that.

Changes

  • Limits. Free chips let you bet anything. Real tables have a minimum and a maximum, and inside bets usually cap lower.
  • Speed costs money. Ten spins a minute is harmless with free chips. With real money, more spins an hour means a bigger average loss.
  • Live tables. There's no free version of live dealer roulette. Those tables only run for real money.
  • Bonuses. Most deposit bonuses on our list count roulette at 0% or 5%, so they rarely suit a roulette player.
  • Getting paid. Real winnings mean ID checks and payout limits. Our payout calculator shows how long a win takes to reach you at each casino.

New to roulette?

A 20-Minute Practice Plan

This order teaches you the most in the least time. Start with our guide to how to play roulette if the table is completely new to you.

  1. Learn the layout on European Roulette (5 minutes). Place a straight-up, a split, a street, a corner, a dozen and red, one at a time, and check each payout as it settles.
  2. Try call bets on Zoom Roulette (5 minutes). Place Orphelins and Zero and watch which numbers each covers. These bets follow the wheel, not the layout.
  3. Watch La Partage on French Roulette (4 minutes). Put the same chip on red every spin and see what happens to it when zero lands.
  4. Feel the swings on a multiplier game (4 minutes). Try Royal Roulette 500X and count how many spins pass before a multiplier lands on one of your numbers.
  5. Price it (2 minutes). Put your usual bet and the spins you'd play in a night into the session cost calculator. Set your budget from the bad-night figure, not the average.

Want a longer session on one wheel? Our roulette simulator gives you $1,000 in practice chips on a single-zero table and tracks your results as you go.

Free Roulette FAQs

Can I play roulette for free?

Yes. All 7 games on this page are free demos that run in your browser with free chips, and you don't need to sign up or download anything. Our roulette simulator is free too, with $1,000 in practice chips on a single-zero wheel.

Can you win real money playing free roulette?

No. Free chips have no cash value and can't be withdrawn. To win real money you have to deposit at a casino, and the same house edge applies there. Our session cost calculator shows what your free session would have cost for real.

Does free roulette play the same as real money roulette?

The rules and payouts are the same, so the house edge is the same: it's built into what each bet pays. What changes is everything around the money: table limits, bonus rules, ID checks, payout times, and how fast you play once each spin costs something.

Which free roulette game has the best odds?

French Roulette, if you stick to even-money bets: La Partage cuts the house edge to 1.35%. European and Zoom Roulette are 2.70%, and American Roulette is 5.26%. Royal Roulette 500X is listed at a 97.3% RTP. We couldn't find published figures for the two Amusnet games.

Do I need to download anything or create an account?

No. Press Play and the game loads from its provider in your browser. Some providers set cookies or ask you to confirm your age.

Can I play free roulette on my phone?

Yes. The demos run in mobile browsers. Use Full screen, or turn your phone sideways, so the smaller betting spots are easier to tap.

Why did my free chips reset?

Each demo runs its own session. Switching games, reloading or closing the player can reset your chips and recent results, depending on the provider.

Does a winning demo session mean I'll win for real?

No. Every spin is independent, and short sessions swing a long way in both directions. Enter your demo result in the calculator to see how often a real session does as well.

Where can I play these roulette games for real money?

Almost every casino we reviewed has European and American software roulette, and Zoom Roulette is in the lobbies at BetUS, Ignition, The Online Casino and Cafe Casino. We didn't find French Roulette or the BGaming and Amusnet multiplier games at any of them, so our table lists the closest match for each.

Is there free live dealer roulette?

No. Live tables only run for real money. If you want a real wheel at low stakes, MyBookie lists live tables from $0.10 a spin, the lowest we found.
